Hi everyone, and Happy November!
Since the holidays are just around the corner, I decided to share a list of my favorite November books, songs, activities, and other helpful resources. I hope you find this to be useful.
Ms. Shannon’s November Favorites
Earl the Squirrel
by Don Freeman - Earl’s mom wants him to be self-sufficient and find his own acorns. Even though it’s a difficult task, Earl is determined to show his mom he can do it.
“Bear Says Thanks” by Karma Wilson - Bear wants to say thinks to his friends that are so great to him. What better way than to have a big dinner for all! This story will be sure to warm everyone’s heart.
by Eileen Spinelli - Each person is thankful for something, the gardener, the artist, the fireman, the clown. What are you thankful for?
I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed A Pie
by Alison Jackson - That old lady is up to something per usual. This time she swallows a pie! Guess what the ending surprise is.
The Thankful Book
by Todd Parr – Who doesn’t love this classic this time of year or any time.
This book celebrates all the things kids are thankful for whether it’s with a big family or just a parent and child. Let the kids say what they are thankful for.
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey
by Lucille Colandro – Yep, this time it’s a turkey! See why she did such a thing, silly old lady!
Run, Turkey Run
by Diane Mayr – I’ve read this book for many years and it never seems to get old with the little ones. Why would Turkey be so sad this time of year? Do you think the farmer can catch him? Let the kids read along with you.
One of my favorite songs to sing would be “If You’re Thankful and You Know It” sung to the tune of “If You’re Happy and You Know It.” Feel free to clap your hands, stomp your feet, turn around, then do all three!
Another of my favorites is the “Turkey Pokey” sung to the tune of the “Hokey Pokey” the kids will have a ball putting in their wings, drumsticks, wattles and turning all around.
I think I have given this website before as a great resource. It has a lot of really cute holiday craft and activity ideas for preschoolers. Link
