Local History and Genealogy Digital Collections


Come and learn about the new Digital Collections at our library for Local History & Genealogy. Thousands of images and documents have been scanned and added to this collection to provide more access for patrons.

Green Street Cemetery ProjectLearn about the results of the ground-penetrating radar survey that was conducted at the Green Street Cemetery, Statesville's oldest public African American burial ground. Local History Librarian Joel Reese will discuss the history of the cemetery, how grant funds were used, the results of the survey by Omega Mapping Services, and the community effort which made this project possible.

Wallace Herbarium Historical MarkerLocal History Librarian Joel Reese has partnered with the State, City of Statesville, the Iredell County Historical Society, and the Wallace Family descendants to present a ceremony celebrating the upcoming historical marker to be placed in downtown Statesville to mark the location of the Wallace Herbarium.

Abandoned Cemeteries in Iredell County
Local History Program Specialist Shellie Taylor will be providing an update on the county-wide cemetery survey in Iredell County. Come and learn about some of the abandoned cemeteries and the histories of those who came before us. Also, discover how you can help protect burial grounds on your property, or basic preservation techniques for your family's headstones.

The Iredell County HomeJoin us as we discover the forgotten history of the County Home. The poor, feeble, and sometimes mentally ill residents of Iredell County called this place home for decades until it closed. Discover available records for those who lived here as well the changes made throughout the years.
