Borrowing Guidelines
Borrowing Limits
You may have up to 100 items checked out on your account at one time
Late Fees
We do not charge fines for items returned past their due date. Fines are only assessed on items that have been marked as lost or damaged.
Library Card
You will need your valid ICPL card/number, NC Cardinal library card, valid photo ID, or a student/teacher ID number in order to borrow items.
Lost Items
An item is declared lost if:
- You have reported the item as lost.
- The item has been overdue for more than 90 days.
Damaged Materials
If an item is damaged but still usable, there is no charge to the patron. If an item is damaged to the point that it can no longer be circulated, you may be responsible for replacement costs.
Late Notices
Notices of late items are provided to you as a courtesy. You are responsible for all late fees and lost items charged to your card whether or not a notice was sent to or received by you. The below late fees are in effect as provided by Iredell County Code Section 6.5-1.

Automatic renewals
Your items will automatically renew up to three times if there are no other requests on the item. You may also renew items yourself in the following ways:
- In person
- Using the library catalog or website
- By calling your local library branch
Reserves
You may reserve items that are currently checked out or located at another library. Items may be reserved online through the library catalog, by telephone, or directly with staff at the desk. Once a reserved item is available, you will be notified and will have seven days to pick up the item. After that date, the item will go to the next person on hold, back to the library shelves, or be returned to the lending library.
Loan of Non-Circulating Materials
The library does not normally loan non-circulating items such as reference materials, magazines, newspapers, microforms, etc. Such materials may be loaned in rare occasions only with the approval of the Library Director, Assistant Library Director, or the Reference Librarian.Local History Room
Items from the Local History Room may be loaned with the approval of the Local History Librarian. In such an exception, 1 non-circulating item may be loaned for a period not to exceed 24 hours. This privilege is available to residents of Iredell County only.Lost Items
