Library Research Policy

  • Information may be mailed within Iredell County only in such cases as the patron cannot physically come to the library.
  • Non-Iredell County residents who cannot visit us in person may request information and copies by mail or email. Please limit requests to one query per letter.
  • For Non-Iredell County residents a fee of $5.00 per request is required at the time the request is made. This fee covers up to ten pages of copies and up to one hour of staff research time. Residents of Iredell County must remit 30 cents per page for copies mailed.
  • Requests should be as specific as possible including names, dates, and sources when appropriate. For example, “Please send me a copy of Jane Jones obituary from the June 1, 1989 Statesville Record & Landmark.”
  • Library staff can assist patrons in locating specific North Carolina General Statutes or United States Codes only when patrons provide the appropriate citations. Staff members cannot, however, interpret those items nor can they suggest or recommend specific legal forms or resources.
  • Tax forms and legal forms are not available by mail or email from the library. These materials are only available to library patrons who come into the library and select them for themselves.
  • In response to a request for information from published sources, the staff will attempt to answer one question about one person at a specific time in a specific county. Up to five indexes may be searched for each request. Due to staffing constraints, we are unable to search microforms or un-indexed materials for patrons.
  •  This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order might involve violation of copyright law. Patron is responsible for copyright compliance.
  • Genealogical Services is only able to respond to requests for information about North Carolina ancestors from patrons who reside outside of North Carolina. A list of professional genealogical researchers is available upon request.
  •  Please enclose a legal-size, self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) with all mail inquiries.
